A Spring Maternity Session with the Deans | Austin, TX

Some families you photograph and some families you just get to be with. The Deans are the second kind.

Britni and Spencer — and their sunshine of a toddler, E — have a way of making everything feel easy. Unhurried. Full of light. Britni is a dear friend and a photographer herself, and there is a particular kind of trust that comes with that — she knows what it means to hand someone your most tender moments, and she hands them to us every time without hesitation. That means everything.

We started the morning at their home, in the soft quiet of early spring. E led the way, as she always does, and we simply followed. That’s the thing about this family — there is nothing to direct, nothing to coax. They just are, and it is effortless and so sweet to document.

As the day stretched into evening, we made our way to the lake as the golden hour light came low and generous across the water. Petals placed lovingly against Britni’s growing belly, snuggles and contented sighs at the joy of togetherness, a toddler completely lost in her own beautiful world, and Britni’s face carrying that serene, quiet joy that only comes when you are right in the middle of something you’ve always wanted.

Every detail felt intentional without being too precious. The clothes, the light, the way they moved together. Sunshine-y spring, head to toe. An inhale and exhale of breath in the weeks before life changes forever.
