Some couples choose a palette. Emily and Sean chose a mood — and it showed in every corner of their Grand Lady wedding in Austin, TX.

Red, yellow, and blue: three colors most of us associate with kindergarten, turned sophisticated, joyful, and entirely their own. Emily and Sean built their whole design around that primary trio. The boldness carried from their invitation suite — all cobalt blue and coral florals — straight through to the reception. There, a cluster of hand-made lampshades hung low over the tables like art no one else could replicate. Some featured hand-painted poppies. Others came in deep patterned blues or solid green. And it’s the kind of detail that only comes from two people willing to make something themselves.

The Grand Lady Wedding & Reception

We shot the day on film. It felt right for a couple who cared this much about texture and color holding up over time. Getting ready was quiet and easy. Sean adjusted his cufflinks in a wood-paneled library. Emily caught the soft afternoon light ahead of their first look, which set the tone for everything after. Their ceremony held a sweet surprise, too. Emily and Sean sealed a time capsule with notes from their wedding party, to open years from now.

At the reception, guests gathered under the vaulted, light-filled room Emily and Sean loved most. It was where modern met organic. Long tables wore blue linens and wildflower arrangements in poppy red and buttery yellow. Overhead, those lampshades did exactly what Emily and Sean designed them to do: make people look up. Later that night, they cut into their floral-topped cake, laughing and a little breathless. By then, it was clear: the whole day was an extension of who they are — warm, a little unconventional, and never afraid of color.
