Ten years ago, we photographed a couple’s wedding day. She had an eye for beautiful spaces. He built things by hand. This spring, we returned to their Austin home. This time, our cameras were loaded for a film newborn session, and we were there to meet their newest addition: Baby M.

It’s one of our favorite parts of this work. We get to return to families across years, sometimes decades. From “I do” to a nursery down the hall.

A Home Built By Both of Them

Baby M’s session happened entirely at home. That’s how we like to shoot newborns. No studio. No forced poses. Just soft morning light moving through a house that already felt lived-in.

This home had its own story to tell. Mom’s work as an interior designer (House Franc Interiors) showed in every corner. Dad’s woodworking (Kept Workshop) filled the space too, including the crib Baby M slept in for these very photos. We couldn’t have asked for a more honest backdrop.

Why We Shot This on Film

We shot most of this session on film. It felt right for a newborn story. Film has a softness digital doesn’t fully replicate. It also matches the slow, unhurried pace we bring to every at-home session.

Tiny fingers wrapped around a parent’s hand. The particular quiet of a house in those first sleepy weeks. Light falling across a nursery someone built with their own two hands. Film holds all of it a little more gently.

A Season Worth Slowing Down For

Sessions like this one stay with us. We get to watch a couple become parents, in the very home they’re building a whole life inside of.
